| Q: Why should I sign up with Get Your Clearance?
A: You should sign up with Get Your Clearance because your entire job/career
depends on getting your clearance, which in turn depends on correctly
filling out your SF86/SF85-P. Yes, you have a good chance of
getting/continuing in your current job on your own, but you have a much
better chance by having a trained professional review your security
questionnaire.
Q: Should I list it? Does XYZ really count?
A:
We don't know what 'it' is without talking to you. That's one of the main
reasons to sign up with Get Your Clearance- to find out / make sure you have
to list it.
Q: What happens if I don't list XYZ?
A: Lying on
the SF86/SF85-P constitutes perjury, same thing as lying while under oath in
court. You can get in a lot of trouble, up to and including losing your job
or even jail time. The security people understand the difference between
minor, unintentional errors (you moved in March instead of January) and
outright lies (you forgot to list those 12 felony charges). What will
happen is that you will place in the minds of the security people 'what else
didn't he/she tell us?' As far as what actually happens to you, they might
find out but not tell you, or you might get another interview to clarify the
story behind XYZ, or you might lose your job, or you might go to jail. It
depends on how bad XYZ is, how obvious it was that you should have listed
it, and what kind of other problems (if any) you have in your background.
Q: Can you tell me how to hide ABC on my questionnaire?
A: No. We
will tell you what does have to be listed and we will tell you what does not
have to be listed on the questionnaire. We will not tell you how to hide
something that should be listed. You shouldn't be thinking like that anyway.
If you intentionally hide something, it is very likely to be found out. If
you've lied on the questionnaire, they will think 'what else might you be
lying about?' That's the security mindset. If you hide something and somehow
it's not found out, you've got your clearance, but now you have to spend
your entire career wondering...what if they find out?
Q: My recruiter
said I didn't have to list that...
A: You should understand each
person's needs. Your recruiter's need is to get you processed and off to
boot camp as quickly as possible. That's how they get credit for doing their
work- by the number of people they send to boot camp. The government's need
is to conduct a complete, thorough, and accurate background check on you.
These two needs are not always compatible. Recruiters do have a good idea
about how to properly fill out the security questionnaire, but they aren't
always aware of what, from a security standpoint, needs to be there. There
is a very small number of recruiters out there who will tell you not to list
something that they know has to be listed. We will tell you what does or
doesn't need to be listed.
Q: Is Get Your Clearance affiliated with
any government agency?
A: No. That would be a conflict of interest.
We are not part of the government.
Q: What information will I need
before the interview with Get Your Clearance?
A: Print out the SF-86
(military) or SF-85 (federal) and fill it out on your own first. The
interview will go much faster if you've already done your homework (looked
up addresses, phone numbers, etc.). Do that as a worksheet for yourself,
then the interview with us, then submit your completed questionnaire to your
branch / agency.
Q: Does signing up with Get Your Clearance guarantee
that I'll get my clearance?
A: No. We're not affiliated with the
government, so we can't affect the clearance itself. What we can do is give
you the best shot you can get at getting your clearance.
Q: Should I
feel nervous about Get Your Clearance having my personal information?
A: No. We understand that identity theft is something everyone should be
watchful for. There are 2 pieces of information (date of birth and social
security number) that we do not ask for. It's up to you to correctly enter
those on your security questionnaire. We have strict guidelines for
maintaining personal information. If you have not signed up for our extended
service, your information is deleted / shredded after we have sent the
completed questionnaire to you and confirmed that you received it. If you
have signed up for our extended service, your information is stored under
multiple layers of encryption and maintained as long as you want us to
maintain it. If you ever decide to cancel your extended service, your
information will be deleted.

Why Should I Sign Up With Get Your Clearance? The SF86/SF85P seem
pretty straightforward. I've got a recruiter/security people to help me if
I want. Why would I want anyone to help me fill a form out?

Should I List It? I've got this thing that happened a few years ago
and I don't want to list it if I don't have to...

Does XYZ Really Count? Does XYZ count under this one question on the
SF86?

What Happens If I Don't List It? I think this question on the SF85P
means I have to list this thing that happened a few years ago, but I'm not going
to list it. What happens if they find out?

My Recruiter Said I Didn't Have To List That... My recruiter said I
didn't have to list that, but it kind of seems like that's what the question on
the SF86 is asking for...
